UrologyAt our department we handle adrenal gland/urogenital organs (kidney, ureter, bladder, male genitalia), and provide medical care, mainly surgery, for neoplastic diseases, congenital renal/urologic diseases, renal insufficiency, urination disorder, endocrine disease and urolithiasis. There are specialty outpatient clinics for pediatric urology, neurogenic urination disorders, urologic tumors and renal transplantation.

Medical care system

A total of 15 urologists perform 500 to 600 surgical procedures per year in a ward with 30 beds.

Treatment policy

In cooperation with other clinical departments, we diagnose renal/urogenital diseases, choose treatment policies and provide medical care to outpatients and inpatients based on a proper explanation and informed consent, in principle. We also cooperate with other medical institutions to continue treatment and care.

Consultation hours

In principle, patients who visit the Department of Urology at Hokkaido University Hospital for the first time are seen at the first-visit clinic on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Returning outpatients are seen at the above four specialist clinics and the general return-visit clinic.

Medical care results

We place special emphasis on the treatment of urination dysfunction (difficulty to start urination, difficulty to retain urine), pediatric urological diseases (congenital deformation of the penis, testes, bladder, ureter and kidneys) and renal/urogenital tract tumors (renal, bladder, prostate and testicular tumors) as well as renal transplantation and vascular surgery (hemodialysis, renal transplantation, thin renal blood vessels, varicocele).
