Dental Radiology

Greetings

Our department handles radiation diagnosis/diagnostic imaging of dental, oral and maxillofacial diseases and dental and oral care related to radiation therapy.
Diagnostic imaging includes plain dental X-ray photography, CT, MRI and RI scans, ultrasonography and sialography. We provide dental and oral care to patients receiving radiation therapy of the oral cavity and jawbone to prevent deterioration of the oral cavity environment.

Outline

Medical care system

We perform dental diagnostic imaging for approximately 10,000 cases and provide dental and oral care to roughly 300 patients who receive radiation therapy each year. Requests for diagnostic imaging are also accepted from other general dental hospitals than Hokkaido University Hospital.

Treatment policy

Concerning oral cancer, we cooperate with oral surgeons and radiologists to decide on treatment policies. Using dental skills, we perform advanced radiation therapy and prepare dentures to prevent disability.
