Greetings

UrologyAt our department we handle adrenal gland/urogenital organs (kidney, ureter, bladder, male genitalia), and provide medical care, mainly surgery, for neoplastic diseases, congenital renal/urologic diseases, renal insufficiency, urination disorder, endocrine disease and urolithiasis. There are specialty outpatient clinics for pediatric urology, neurogenic urination disorders, urologic tumors and renal transplantation.

A total of 15 urologists perform 500 to 600 surgical procedures per year in a ward with 30 beds.
Number of hospitalizations

Treatment policy

In cooperation with other clinical departments, we diagnose renal/urogenital diseases, choose treatment policies and provide medical care to outpatients and inpatients based on a proper explanation and informed consent, in principle. We also cooperate with other medical institutions to continue treatment and care.

Areas of medical care

At the specialty outpatient clinics and in the ward, the following specialist groups lead the medical care for patients:
  • Pediatric urology group (hypospadia, congenital urogenital defects, endocrine diseases)
  • Neurogenic urination physiology group (urination disorders, incontinence, bladder dysfunction, prostatic hyperplasia)
  • Urologic tumor group (adrenal tumors, renal/urinary tract cancers, testicular tumors, prostate cancer)
  • Renal transplantation and vascular surgery group (renal insufficiency, dialysis, renal transplantation, renal vascular surgery)

Consultation hours

In principle, patients who visit the Department of Urology at Hokkaido University Hospital for the first time are seen at the first-visit clinic on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Returning outpatients are seen at the above four specialist clinics and the general return-visit clinic.
